Accommodation in Prague - general notes
Prague offers a wide variety of accommodation of all kinds and all prices. We recommend to use some of the global booking portals (e.g., booking.com or tripadvisor.com) which, among others, offer ratings of the individual hotels. The conference venue is right in the city centre (see the marker A on the map below) which means that hotels in its vicinity belong to the more expensive ones. If you wish to save money, you may consider cheaper options farther away from the city centre from which you may still be able to reach the conference venue within (say) 45 minutes by means of the Prague public transportation system. It consists of a rich and reliable network of subway, tram and bus lines. The subway is the fastest and it can be used to define a raw measure of distances in Prague – the travel time between two subway stations is approximately two minutes on average. The conference place is about five minutes of walk from the subway stations "Mustek" (line A) and "Namesti Republiky" (line B).
Cheaper options
For participants with a limited budget, we can arrange accommodation at one of the following places:
Hotel Pawlovnia (marker D) is near the subway station "Nadrazi Holesovice" (line C). It takes 30–40 minutes to get to the conference venue from there by the public transportation system. Guests of the Astronomical Institute of Charles University are usually accommodated in this hotel at a discount price of about 50 € per night.
University guest house in Jinonice (marker B) – fully booked – offers accommodation for about 30 € per night. It is near the subway station "Jinonice" (line B), and, therefore, its travel distance to the conference venue is approximately 30 minutes.
Even cheaper accommodation is available at the dormitory Kajetanka (marker C) – fully booked – for about 15 € per night. The city centre is reachable within less than 30 minutes via tram line 22 from there.
If you wish to use any of these options, please contact the LOC.
